REGAN Williams, a fire-fighter by day, was handed the perfect, hard learning fight by quality journeyman Jordan Grannum on Friday night.
And the 28-year-old had to dig deep on BCB’s show at the WV Active Aldersley before securing referee Ryan Churchill’s 39-37 decision.
Regan ended the contest bleeding heavily from the nose and had to take some lusty hooks and uppercuts.
In only his second fight, the Dudley apprentice showed he has the heart need to make it in this unforgiving business. He also played his part in the most entertaining bout on the undercard.
Williams always looked to hit back when tagged. In short, the fireman was prepared to fight fire with fire.
That bout will have done him an awful lot of good.
Islington’s Grannum (11st 8lbs like his opponent) connected with solid jabs in the first, while Williams fired rights to the body.
Regan introduced uppercuts in the second and both swapped punches on the inside in the third.
Grannum, a veteran of close to 200 bouts, grinned after taking a right in the final round, connected with a left hook of his own, then retreated to the ropes as Williams attacked the body.
It’s very early days, but Williams’ pro journey looks to be an exciting one.
