Dempsee joins long list of Triumph stars
Dempsee Madden…became a Midlands champ at the weekend
FAMED Coventry club Standard Triumph – a conveyor belt for amateur and pro champs – believe they have another special talent in Dempsee Madden.
After a fine title-laden youth career, the 19-year-old has made an immediate impact in the seniors.
At the weekend, at Acocks Green, Dempsee collected a Midlands title in the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs championships. In my day, the top competition was simply the NABCs (National Association of Boys Clubs), but way back then, the fight game hadn’t opened its doors to women.
Dempsee registered a victory in the Class D 63.5kg – 67kg final that will make the country sit up and take notice. He outpointed UK number two Aman Kumar from Cleary’s gym in Leamington.
A spokesman for Triumph said: “It was a remarkable display of talent to decisively claim the Midlands area title.
“This is no overnight success. Dempsee started boxing at the age of 11 and had a stellar youth career.”
It was certainly loaded with trophies. He’s a four time Midlands champ, national youth finalist, Welsh finals runner-up, national semi-finalist and holder of the 67kg Youth Elite Midlands belt.
The spokesman added: “Now, having just stepped up to the senior categories, he's carrying that pedigree forward and is currently progressing in the highly competitive NABGCs competition.
“Dempsee's commitment to the sport is absolute. He trains relentlessly and dedicates his life to boxing. What makes his journey particularly compelling is the heartfelt motivation behind it. He dedicates every single fight to his grandfather's memory and his family is immensely proud and provides incredible support at every bout.
“Dempsee is a determined, hard-working fighter with an already impressive list of achievements as a youth who is now taking down major names in the senior ranks. He is undoubtedly one to watch.”
He certainly has the pedigree to succeed. Dempsee is part of Tile Hill’s Cooke family which has a proud, strong tradition in the sport.
The roll of honour at Triumph is very long. Top pro prospects Aaron Bowen and Bradley Goldsmith are both old boys.
The club famously produced record-breaking amateur Errol Christie and spawned such talent as Richard Evatt, who went on to be an exciting, heavy-hitting pro, England regular Steve Bendall, Jimmy Twite, James Mulhern…
The list goes on and on.
Dempsee seems destined to join that elite group of Triumph stars.
