Mia Hull…makes her debut on Scott Murray’s Coventry show next week

THERE’S an infectious honesty about new pro Mia Hull that sets her apart from the rest.

Frankly, the boxers who has adopted the ring nickname Careless – “because I don’t care who I step in the ring with” – is a breath of fresh air.

Those fans – and she’s sold a lot of tickets – present for Mia’s debut on Scott Murray’s Sports Connexion, Coventry, show next Friday (September 11) can expect blood. It may well be her own, the Bromsgrove bantam laughed.

Mia, managed by Jon Pegg, told me: “As an amateur, my nose just bled, but we’ve been working on defence. I was stopped three times because of it, which I thought was a bit sexist – they wouldn’t stop a man because of a nose bleed. I was never hurt as an amateur.”

Those fans can also expect aggression because Hull comes out all guns blazing.

She makes her paid bow against Lancashire’s Sydney Chambers and should get one of the biggest cheers of the night. “So far I’ve sold 100 tickets,” said the 21-year-old, “Scott (Murray) has been talking about how many tickets I’ve been selling.”

Hull, a dental technician by day, comes from fighting stock – she’s the daughter of Anthony Hull, head of Birmingham’s bustling D&A Boxing School of Excellence. Mia’s been round boxers all her life.

“No one forced me to do this,” she stressed. “People say your dad forced you to do it, but I love it. He’s really proud of me, he loves doing one-to-one’s with me because he knows I’ll be working hard.

Despite a fairly limited amateur career, Mia has no doubt the pro game is where she’ll really shine: “I didn’t have much luck in the amateurs, and I was sparring a lot of pros. My sparring partner is Jess Barry so I’m sure I’m ready for the pros, I have that style – I’m aggressive, I come forward.

“I want as many titles as I can get.”

Of next Friday’s big night, Mia added: “I’m excited. I’ll be nervous, but I’m ready to get in there because I’ve been in camp so long.”

With dad Anthony as her trainer, you can be sure Mia knows the drill.
