Boswell, Liversidge shine at new venue

LEAMINGTON’S Fitzpatrick’s gym has produced a couple of crackers during the countdown to Christmas.

Joe Liversidge and Davey Boswell – both 71kg - gained eye-catching victories at a new Coventry venue, HMV Empire.

Liversidge, aged 18, came out throwing big punches at Westside Boxing’s Joe Reid, but showed more finesse and poise in the second round. Sharp jabs and precise right hands found their target and Joe was now in the driving seat.

With Reid fading and bleeding from the mouth, the Leamington lad opened up with both hands – and overwhelmed his opponent. Reid received a standing count after shipping heavy shots and the ref called it off after tolling a second count.

Davey Boswell, 21, featured in a rematch with Westside’s Kristin Kelly and again he emerged victorious. Davey produced the better boxing throughout to gain the points decision.

Gym boss Derek Fitzpatrick said: “This continues a good run of form for the club and we’ll be looking to build on the successes next year.”
