Regan makes quick move to six rounders

SERVING fireman Regan Williams is in a hurry to ignite his fledgling fight career.
He wants it to burn brightly from the beginning, not slowly smoulder.
The novice plans to step-up to six rounds level for his next outing in March rather than keep learning over the apprentice four rounds distance.
“I’m training to make sure the new distance suits me, I’m training hard,” said the Willenhall middleweight who has won his first two bouts on points.
Finding the time to train hard is, in itself, hard work. Williams has a demanding full-time job at Oldbury Fire Station and also works at his family’s business, A’ Jam Locksmiths.
“There’s a gym at the station which I use and my coach (Mitchell Pearce) organises sessions around my work,” Williams explained.
He looks a bright, aggressive and exciting addition to the game. Last time out, Jordan Grannum – probably the best journeyman out there – really tested the 26-year-old. Williams passed the test, but ended the contest with a badly bloodied nose.
Williams, who didn’t set the world alight as an amateur, showed plenty of old-fashioned bottle that night. He bit on his gumshield and ground out the win.
“It was a good test,” Williams, who boxes under the BCB banner, acknowledged. “Good experience. He’s a journeyman who boxed at a high level, then decided to take that route. It gave me the experience of adjusting – making changes in the ring and adjusting.”
It’s way to early to predict what Williams can achieve: at present it’s about monitoring progress – something he realises.
“I’m working on improving my ability and becoming a better boxer, training to be the best I can be,” he said.
“I’m not exceptional at any one thing, but I’m a bit of an all-rounder. I’m not lacking in any department, but I’m not exceptional in any department.”
Importantly, he has solid support: “I’ve done quite well with tickets and the promoter’s happy.”
That support should grow steadily as Williams climbs the ladder in 2026. Serving fireman Regan Williams aims to start the year smoking.
