New pro Robinson promises excitement

NEW fighter on the block Brandon Robinson has promised those following his career an exciting, white knuckle ride.

The middle is turning pro with Birmingham manager Anthony Manning and – once medicals have been passed – will make his debut in December. He’ll be trained by his dad, Gavin.

“I’ll bring entertainment and excitement,” Brandon, a 26-year-old from Halesowen, said. “I love the crowds, even when the crowd’s against me. I thrive on that. I love to go toe to toe, I’m not scared of anyone.”

Brandon enters the paid ranks following a solid 55 fight amateur career with Old Hill. He faced good lads, boxed in major tournaments  and won just over half his bouts.

“I’ve always had loads of bad luck in the amateurs,” said Brandon, by day a sports centre manager. “I got to the Midlands finals, got cut, it went to points and I won. Then the result got over-turned. They gave me the medal, then asked for it back.”

He believes his style is more suited to the longer professional distance.

“I was always going to turn pro, it was just a matter of when. I felt I’d learned everything I can in the amateurs, I fought some of the best lads in the country. After three rounds, I felt fresh and raring to go. With the smaller (pro) gloves, it’s more about hurting people and causing damage.

“It’s too early to say what I can achieve. I want to try to win a Midlands title and see what happens after that.”

Refreshingly, Brandon’s not making any bold boasts about selling out small halls: the fanbase needs working on.

He added: “It’s hard to say how I’ll do with selling tickets. When I tried to sell them as an amateur, I sold some, but not a massive amount.”

If Brandon’s as exciting as he says he is, the word will soon spread about his box office appeal.
