Jess and Danny on club’s VIP tartan bill
Jess Barry….six rounder before big things beckon
THERE will be a distinct sky blue thread in the tartan on display at the Excelsior Sporting Club’s annual St Andrew’s boxing show next month.
Two of Warwickshire’s finest warriors are slated to appear on Scott Murray’s lavish November 26 extravaganza in Cannock.
For Coventry’s Jess Barry and Leamington hurricane Danny Quartermaine are both on the bill in six rounders.
For former European super-featherweight champ Quartermaine it’s another step in the quest to again compete for major titles.
After six months out, Danny eased back with a win last month. He’s lost only one of 17, and that wide points setback to Royston Barney Smith cost Quartermaine his IBF and European titles.

For “Banshee” Barry, it’s the first outing since crashing into world class. In August, the 32-year-old gave an inspired performance to push America’s former world featherweight title challenger Reina Tellez to an eight round decision.
That display, on a major arena show, pushed Jess to within touching distance of very big fights. November 26 is about marking time and keep sharp until the opportunity comes.
“It’s keeping busy,” said manager Jon Pegg. “Too many have a good fight and think they’ll wait for their chance only for that chance not to come.”
The Excelsior Club is proving something of a home from home for Barry: this will be her third appearance at the VIP venue and her second on a St Andrew’s show there.
Promoter Scott Murray said: “Jon’s her manager, but after this one I’d imagine they’d be looking for a European title fight or world title eliminator. She’s at that level now.”
