SAM Evitts will step through the ropes at Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton, next week weighed down by terrible tragedy.
The Cradley Heath welter has decided to keep his appointment on BCB’s big October 17 title bill despite the death of his brother Anthony only two weeks ago.
It was a loss that came without warning and Evitts admits he’s still struggling to process it. Anthony, a 37-year-old father-of-four, died in a freak fall.
Sam, who made his debut in July, is boxing because that is what Anthony would’ve wanted. The money he earns from the four rounder will help meet funeral costs.
“I’ve got to try and keep it together,” Evitts, aged 29, told me. “When it happened, I didn’t know how I could do it. I never had someone that close to me die before, I never prepared myself for anything like that.
“The only time I’ve felt normal was when I was in the gym, that was the only time I’ve been able to switch off. I know he’d want me to fight.
“Only seven minutes before it happened, he text me to make sure we’d put aside two VIP tickets for him. I’m doing it for him more than I’m doing it for me.

“My brother was well known by everyone, had a heart a gold and would do anything to help anyone.”
Evitts, father to a 19-month-old daughter, has sold around 100 tickets for the bout which will be dedicated to his brother.
He has entered the pro ranks without fanfare and after 15 amateur bouts -eight of them losses.
Sam, who runs his own business installing log burners, believes his career will really catch fire as a professional. “I have more of a pro style, I’m more suited to the pro game,” he said. “I’m going to take it as it comes, but believe I can get to British level, at the least. I spar good lads and do well. As long as I have the desire and dedication, I’ll get there.
“I’m a tough lad. I can box, I can also punch. I’m game, I don’t mind who I go in with.”
On October 17 Evitts will give his all for brother Anthony, then again grieve.
