D&A duo Danny and Mia set to join pros
Danny Cahill with pro champion Nyall Berry: “I’m a boxer who can fight”
TWO fighters from Birmingham’s bustling D&A Boxing School of Excellence are set to turn pro.
Danny Cahill and Mia Hull – called to the ring and interviewed during this month’s Holiday Inn, Birmingham, show – plan to make their debuts in June, with Jon Pegg their manager.
Featherweight Danny, from Stirchley, had around 20 amateur contests. The 22-year-old said: “It was always my plan to turn pro. I had a lot of pull-outs in the amateurs so decided to turn over. I’m fast and strong, I do switch-hit occasionally, I’m a boxer who can fight. The power is coming through, I’m sitting down on my punches more.”
Danny added: “I’m developing more of a pro style as I go along. I’m looking to take my career as far as I can with the skillset I’ve got.”
Mia, a Bromsgrove bantam, is the daughter of D&A boss Anthony Hull, so the 20-year-old – a dental technician by day – knows the drill when it comes to boxing.
Please excuse the pun.
She’s crammed 10 amateur bouts into a relatively short time-frame, winning half. “I had a lot in a couple of months,” Mia said.
Mia Hull celebrates an amateur victory. Now the pros beckon
“Jon (Pegg) has watched me spar and liked what he’s seen. I’ve sparred a lot of people, like Jess Barry. Jon and my dad said my style suits the pros more than the amateurs – I’m aggressive, I like to sit down on my shots. I’ve been serious about the sport for two years, but I’ve been around a boxing gym all my life.
“I think I can achieve a lot, to be fair, I think I can fight for titles. I’ll make my debut in May or June and take it from there. A lot of people believe in me.”
Of that first pro outing, Mia added: “I’ll be nervous, the emotions will be high, but I’ll be excited.”
