ACER Pattison had to battle back from behind to gain victory in a tough bout on his Christ the King club’s show at Coventry’s hmv Empire.
The 16-year-old was outboxed by Codey Allen in the first, but bit on his gumshield to have the Box Power boxer on the back foot in the second.
In the third Pattison (46kg) was catching his opponent with jabs and landing right counters to gain a hard-fought unanimous decision.
Christ the King’s head coach Chris Delaney said: “After the first round I was thinking I may have made a mistake giving away so much experience - it was Acer’s third bout to Codey’s 13th. Acer showed a lot of heart in the way he come back after the first round, which is very pleasing for me as a coach. Next up for Acer will be the Midlands Box Cup.”
Cameron Seal wades into Billy Cowling in a real cracker of a contest
Middleweight Cameron Seal is rapidly establishing himself as the Coventry club’s crowd-pleaser after another tear-up. The 25-year-old middle possesses plenty of old fashioned bottle.
And he showed it against Newark’s Billy Cowling in a real thriller. Cameron endured a torrid first round, taking a count from a southpaw left, to roar back and sling punches non-stop.
Body shots slowed Cowling and he was forced to trade: at close quarters, Seal had the upper hand. Two standing counts for the visitor sealed unanimous victory for Seal.
“If there were another 10 seconds I’m confident Cameron would have stopped him. A great end to the show!,” Delaney said.
Kyle Mcauley and Mckenzie Lafferty embrace after their tight battle
Kyle Mcauley, a tall 26-year-old welter, had to fight hard to overcome New Saint’s very fit Mckenzie Lafferty. Both lads had similar styles, with Mcauley’s greater punch output proving decisive.
Nelson Burton looked a real box of tricks against Alfie Halliwell
Middleweight Nelson Burton proved a real box-of-tricks against Alfie Halliwell (Ashby) on the way to a unanimous decision. The 22-year-old scored with crisp combinations then moved out of range of Alfie’s combinations. Nelson showed real ring intelligence.
Layne McKinley swaps punches with Harry Alpin on way to points defeat
Layne McKinlay (46kg) lost a unanimous decision to Harry Alpin from Berinsfield, but the 15-year-old will have learned a lot from the pleasing contest.
Mikey Pollock celebrates victory over Zak Bartlett from South Normanton
Mikey Pollock, also 15 and 67kg ,boxed very well against Zak Bartlett from South Normanton. He used a sharp jab and good footwork to take a unanimous decision.
Prestley Ford boxed to instructions in first skills bout
Prestley Ford, aged 11, boxed to instructions in his first skills bout and looked very composed against Oscar Down from Cannock. No decision is given in skills bouts.
Debutant Jack Fletcher gave it his all against Liam Mcluskey
Fifteen-year-old Jack Fletcher also had his first skills, with Exhall’s Liam Mcluskey in the opposite corner. Delaney added: “Jack had a really good go and will have learned a lot.”
*Christ the King’s next show will be their traditional “Mexican style” open air season finale. It takes place on July 10 at Bablake Playing Fields.
