FAYE Blount, just five foot tall, is out to prove she’s a Midlands mighty atom in the women’s sport.

The Black County bantam makes her first steps to becoming a mini marvel on BCB’s October 17 show at Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton.

It’s a pro debut that’s been a long time coming. Faye, from Willenhall, has been sidelined by a shoulder injury that needed surgery, but is now fully healed and she’s raring to go.

“Becoming a professional boxer is something I’ve always wanted to do,” the 21-year-old product of Gavin Burrows’ Trojan gym said. “I’m excited about it, I’ve just got to put into place what I’ve been working on all my life, really. I’ve put in the graft, eaten right, now it’s about delivering on the night.”

Faye has turned over after only seven amateur contests – the last being defeat at the Haringey Box Cup – but has a wealth of top kick-boxing experience behind her. A member of the Trojan gym for 12 years, she won a world title aged 14 and has fought abroad.

History will tell you fine martial arts fighters don’t always make fine boxer. Faye insists: “It’s a tough transition but I think I made it quite smoothly. I was a gymnast for years and competed in the nationals. One day they did a boxing session at my school and I really enjoyed it.”

By day, Faye is employed as a social and emotional mental health teacher in Cannock, working with 13 to 17 year olds: both they and school staff are backing her pro journey. “They love it,” she said. “I think it encourages them – it’s telling them you have to keep pushing for your dreams.

“I want to aim for the top – that’s the goal. I have to keep pushing and believing in myself.”

So what can fans at the Aldersley Stadium debut expect from the newcomer?

“I’m a fighter who wants to be in close,” Faye added. “I feel I can mix it up and have a variety of skill – it depends what the opponent brings.”
