Big-punching Berry now on Excelsior bill
Nyall Berry…fighting in Cannock on Thursday night
BIG punching English champ Nyall Berry has been added to Thursday’s glitzy St Andrew’s Night fight card at the Excelsior Sporting Club, Cannock.
The annual event will be tartan draped. Chelmsley Wood’s Berry will bring TNT power to the black tie occasion.
The super-bantam, with only one loss in 16, got the call after Cork light-heavyweight Cathal Crowley was forced to pull out of the show through injury.
Nyall will face Peruvian southpaw Cesar Paredes who was outpointed by fellow Birmingham prospect Cori Gibbs in August. The South American’s a tough operator who has lost more than he’s won, but is seldom stopped. Only four opponents have prevented Paredes from hearing the final bell in a 50 bout career.
The fight is scheduled for six rounds.
Coventry’s Huey Malone – one of the brightest prospects out there – looks for his third straight win at the expense of welter Dan Booth.
Booth always comes to scrap and in June heavily dropped Tyseley’s Elliott Sowe before losing a close points decision. He’s also been in with top Birmingham fighters Scott Melvin and Mykey Lee Broughton.
A quality card is capped by swashbuckling Shabir Haidary, unbeaten in 10 – and his six rounder with Caine Singh could be fight of the night.
The lightweight, born in Afghanistan, is lightning fast and hits hard. In his last appearance at the Excelsior, dangerous Jahfieus Faure was blown away in three rounds.
Singh, from Middlesbrough, is far better than his 3-7-2 record suggest. Last December I watched him give former amateur star Josh Rose all the trouble he could handle in a four round war.
He also snapped the winning record of Jimmy Burnside and, in his last fight, beat fellow undefeated boxer Donagh Keary.
